Son of Wade Hampton and Charlotte Slatten. They lived Hawkins co TN, Campbell co TN, Bradley co TN, Polk co TN, Dade co GA and DeKalb co AL.

This man was probably born in Polk Co, TN, formed from Bradley and McMinn.

Served 1st AL & TN Independent Vidette Cavalry (Union), then after unit mustered out, enlisted in Co G, 12th Tennessee Cavalry (Union) charged with desertion when unit was sent to Ft Leavenworth Kansas (much of the unit deserted). Because this is an early "G I" tombstone, and he and widow were granted pensions, he was presumably exonerated of that charge. See his brother Wade' s memorial for a similar story.
His brother John also served in this unit. Both are cited below.

Descendants Lee and Gene Slaten operated Slaten Furniture in Chattanooga TN for many years, before moving the store to Fort Oglethorpe GA, where it was closed.

Brothers:
John Slatton (Union)
Wade Hampton (Union)
Hiram Slatton (CSA)
William Henry Harrison Slatton (CSA)

Some of his first cousins by an uncle John Slatton are in Emison Mill Cemetery in Scott co KY and Lexington Cem in Fayette co KY.

The manager of this memorial finds an Archie H. Slaten buried very near this stone, and his dates suggest that he is a son of George who was born after the 1880 census, and is therefore linking the two, although this is a conjecture.
